Born in the Honey Pot section of Nanticoke, he was a son of the late Joseph C. and Julia (Navroth) Wodyka.
He was educated in the Nanticoke Area schools and was a graduate of Nanticoke High School, Class of 1947.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean conflict. He was employed by JS Raub as a district manager for 30 years.
He also managed Gorda's Cafe in Swoyersville and was employed by Wyoming Valley Health Care System.
Joseph was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 302 and had served as a past grand knight. He was the co-founder of the Knights Nobles Ball.
He was a member of the Plains American Legion Post 558; the P.A.V.; Catholic War Vets, of Ashley; and the Henry Club, Plains. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Church, Plains.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Josephine Wroblewski, who died on March 30, 1994; sister, Jule Cook.
He is survived by his sons, Joseph and his wife, Stephanie, of Bethlehem; and David and his fiancee, Sherri Kane, of Plains; grandsons, Michael and David; granddaughter, Kristen.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Wednesday at SS. Peter and Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains.
Interment will be in the parish cemetery, Plains.
Arrangements are by the Michael J. Mikelski Funeral Home, 293 S. River St., Plains.
