Velma Irene Swisher, age 96, of Main Street, Laceyville, passed away on Friday morning March 29, 2013 at the Golden Living Center in Tunkhannock.
Irene was born on Sept. 9, 1916 in Lodi, N.Y. the daughter of the late Fred and Olive Covert Bahr. She was a graduate of Laceyville High School Class of 1934.
She was a homemaker for her late husband Darrell E. Swisher who passed away in November 1994 and her son Morgan Swisher.
Irene attended the Braintrim Baptist Church in Laceyville. In her younger years she enjoyed roller skating and bowling.
She is survived by her son Morgan Swisher and his wife Jennie of Lebanon; her grandchildren Morgan D. Swisher of Adamstown and Lisa Spencer and her husband Dennis of Lititz; her step-grandchildren Holly Bleyer and her husband Michael of Lebanon and Randall Heilman and his wife Lisa of New Holland; three great-grandchildren, five step great-grandchildren, and seven great-great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband and parents, Irene was preceded in death by her sisters Amy McConegly, Phyllis Laskos, Helen Bahr, and Esther Golden.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main St., Laceyville, with Rev. Thomas Davis of the Braintrim Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at the Lacey Street Cemetery. Family and friends may call from noon until the time of service on Wednesday, April 3 at the funeral home.
