Born in the town of Baie-des-Sables, Québec, along the Saint Lawrence River, Jean-David Ermidas Tiburce Généreux married Alma Vaillancourt in September of 1888. Both can trace their lineage to the earliest settlers of Canada.

The family followed Tiburce's brother Alphonse and Alma's aunt Adelaide to Fall River, Massachusetts around the winter or very early spring of 1902. Tiburce set up a store there, manned at various times by his children.

Tiburce and Alma had eight children: J. Albert, a carpenter; Marie Antoinette, wife of a postal worker; Arthur, a butcher; Jeanne, wife of a gas worker; Blanche, a floor manager at a factory; Alice, wife of a mason; Henri, who died in infancy; and Joseph Edmund, or Timmy as he called himself, a grocery salesman.
