Born in the town of Matane, Québec, along the Saint Lawrence River, Alma married Tiburce Généreux in September of 1888. Both can trace their lineage to the earliest settlers of Canada.

The family moved to Fall River, Massachusetts around the winter or very early spring of 1902. Tiburce set up a store there, manned at various times by their children.

Tiburce and Alma had nine children: J. Albert, a carpenter; Phillipe, who died in infancy; Marie Antoinette, wife of a postal worker; Arthur, a butcher and storekeeper; Jeanne, wife of a gas worker; Blanche, a floor manager at a factory; Alice, wife of a mason; Henri, who died in infancy; and Joseph Edmund, or Timmy as he called himself, a grocery salesman.
