Enlisted on 26 July 1862 at Port Huron, St. Clair County, Michigan; he was residing in Wales Township, St. Clair Township prior to his enlistment at 27 years of age; mustered in on 14 August 1862, Company C, Michigan 22nd Volunteer Infantry Regiment as a Sergeamt; captured and imprisioned on 20 September 1863 at the Battle of Chickamauga, Walker County, Georgia; died of disease ("sickness") as a POW at Danville, Virginia.
Mrs Bartlett had one child OSCAR who enlisted in the 22nd Michigan, was in several battles, and taken prisoner at the battle of Chickamauga. He was confined in Libby Prison for two months then to Belle Island, both at Richmond, Virginia, and finally to Danville, Virginia where he died of small pox January 23 1864 in his 30th year -- the disease of which he died having been contracted in prison.
