Mrs. Virginia Dickens Hunter, age 87, of Broadway, N.C., died Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at UNC Hospitals.

She was born and raised in Harnett County, N.C. on September 30, 1925, to the late Rufus Dickens and Vonnie Thomas Dickens.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Jones Hunter, and all her siblings predeceased her: Lily Dickens, Gertrude Hallman, Leadie Hallman, Inez Honeycutt, Refus Dickens, George Dickens, Mack Dickens, Ruby Gooch and Betty Lou Shelton.

Mrs. Hunter worked many years as a cosmetologist.

She is survived by her son, Elmer Jones Hunter, Jr. and wife Janet of Broadway; grandchildren, Shawn P. Hunter and wife Wendy and Dacia Hunter LaBounty and husband Tim; great-grandchildren, Madison B. Hunter, Conley J. Hunter and Corbin E. LaBounty; beloved nieces, Debbie A. Kindle and Anette S. Hockaday and husband Alan; great-nephews, Adam Kindle, Brian Kindle and Brent Hockaday and his wife April and their son Grant.

The family will receive friends Thursday, April 4, 2013, from 6-8 PM at Baptist Chapel Church and the funeral will be Friday, April 5, 2013, at 3:00 PM at Baptist Chapel Church with Pastor Alex Smith presiding. Burial will follow at the Broadway Town Cemetery.
