Darlene was born April 24, 1934 in North Dakota, to James Presley and Della Leora (VanDyke) Dawson, and was a twin to her sister Delores. Darlene moved with her family to Montana, then to Idaho, where she spent her teenage years.

She married Norman Paul Horton in Idaho on Oct 14 1951, then relocated to California. She had 4 children: Norman Gary, Susan, Michael, and Lamonte (Monty) Horton.

She is survived by a brother, William of Oklahoma, and her twin sister, Delores, of California. Preceding her in death was her parents, her husband and siblings: Margaret (Marge), Evelyn, John (Jack), Francis, James, Howard, and Shirley.
