Georg's grandfather, Johann (Wilhelm's father) had a large 75 acre farm which he split between his only two sons, Wilhelm and Johannes. Georg would start to work fulltime alongside his father by the age of 8. He still went to school everyday and finished at the age of 14. They grew wheat, rye, a vegetable garden, fruit trees (apple, pear, plum, and cherry). They also raised cows, chickens, and pigs. Georg played the trumpet in a local band.
When Georg was 17 his father, Wilhelm, became very ill and would pass away when Georg was 21. Georg would take over running the farm until he met Sophie Katherine Marquardt. Sophie's father, George Marquardt, and Wilhelm were good friends. Eventually Georg would convert to Mormonism so that he could marry Sophie. He proposed on the 23rd of December 1912. He was baptized into the Latter Day Saints on the 16th of March 1913. The following month, on the 13th of April 1913, Sophie and Georg were married.
Sadly when Georg converted to Mormonism his mother, Eva Katharina, told him to leave the family home. Georg and Sophie would live with her parents. Georg enlisted into the German Army and served from 1915 to 1918. They would eventually repair their relationship with Georg's mother and move back to the Rausch Farm. The had six daughters while in Germany; Alice, Margaret, Marie, Eva, Sophie Katherine, and Anna Eva.
The family immigrated to the United States in 1926. Georg, Sophie, and the six daughters (George the only son was born in the United States) left Hamburg, Germany sailing on the Deutschland Oceanliner on September 10th, 1926. They arrived in New York City, New York, USA on September 20th, 1926. The family traveled to Salt Lake City, Utah to join many other German-born LDS converts.
Georg had been diagnosed with adult onset diabetes before their departure and tragically died only 17 months after arriving in the United States. He passed away at the Salt Lake General Hospital from a diabetic coma on the 13th of February 1928. He was interred on the 16th of February 1928 in The Salt Lake City Cemetery.
