Mr. Hayes was born in Norfolk. He had been employed with Holsum Bakery and had also been in the merchant marine. He was a member of Discipleship Baptist Church, Chesapeake.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Hayes; two sons, Roosevelt Hayes Jr. of Portsmouth and Antonio Hayes of Virginia Beach; his father, Samuel Hayes of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Betty Hayes of Georgia and Shirley A. Hayes of Virginia Beach; and a brother, Kidfield Hayes of Norfolk.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday in Discipleship Baptist Church by the Rev. A.E. Moses. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery. E.A. Hughes Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
