Catharine Helmling departed Wurttemberg, Germany about July 1882 and boarded the German SS Donau about August 1882 in Bremen, Germany. She left behind her parents, Christian Helmling and Catharina Weng. She immigrated to the New York port on 21 Oct 1882. Along her passage she must have met Georg Stroehle as they get married sometime after their arrival date in the USA.

Georg and Catharine moved to Dayton, Montgomery, Ohio and remained there their entire lives. Georg preceded Catharine in death. They had 8 children, 6 of whom survived more than one year. They are: Anna M. (Stroehle) Zapf, Joseph George Stroehle, William M. Stroehle, Francis C. Stroehle, Michael Lee Stroehle, and Julianna F. (Stroehle) Zapf.

Catharine Stroehle is buried at Calvary Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio. However, her grave site is not marked, yet she is on record as being interred on the cemetery property.
