During the past week, death has claimed two of the oldest residents in our vicinity – Mr.
and Mrs. Wm. Allen.

William Allen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Erle Allen, was born on August 19, 1838, at Union
Corners on what was know as the Allen homestead. He died at his home south of LaGrange
on Feb. 1, 1923. On Jan. 7, 1874, he was united in marriage to Mary Melissa Northrup,
and a few years later came with his wife to the Northrup homestead, where he lived at the
time of his death, a period of 42 years. His is survived by a sister, Mrs. Mary
Manchester of Syracuse, and several nephews and nieces.

Mary Melissa Allen, daughter of Chauncey and Judith Northrup, was born at Hemlock Lake on
April 6, 1838, wand when a child moved with her parents to LeRoy, and later to the farm
near Pavilion, where she lived until her marriage with Mr. Allen in 1874.

She died on Feb. 3, 1923, two days after the death of her husband. She is survived by
one brother A___ Northrup, and a nephew, E___ Brown, who also resides at the Northrup
homestead; a nephew …

A short funeral service conducted by Rev. I. S. Zaraphonithes, was held at their late
home at 1 o’clock on Monday afternoon, after which the bodies were placed in the vault in
the Perry Center cemetery. Burial will take place in the spring in the cemetery at Union
Corners.
