George William Firman s/o William Elias Firman (2) & Ethel May Nash, 1st born. Parents divorced the year he turned nine (1916). He was to live with his father, but the latter's 2nd wife did not want that. So George split his time with his mother Ethel, who remarried in 1919 to F B Van Woert, and with his Firman grandparents, William W Firman & Alice M Sweet in Lapeer. By 1920, Ethel & F B were living in Pontiac MI. At age 16, George married Adeline H Larson, who was an 18 year old, Swedish speaking nanny working in Lapeer. The family tale is that he rescued her from taunting by others of her age at a local ice cream parlor. Taking it upon himself to watch out for her, he asked his mother to give signed permission for him to marry at 16. She did, with the proviso they not have children until he turned 21. This he almost did. Their first born was a boy (1927). By then, Adeline was 21 so the difference was negligible. Their other child was a girl (1933). George worked many years for GM in Pontiac MI as a time efficiency engineer. He had a special talent for setting others at ease, which greatly benefitted his work. Always ready with a warm greeting and jovial story or two, he could leave people with smiles on their faces. And often did, both at work & socially. George played guitar & bango, and - for a time - performed with q local group in town. He & Adeline preferred renting to owning and, over time, lived at a number of places in and around Pontiac. Each was kept in sparkling condition, much to Adeline's insistence. George died in Jan 1982 in hospital of heart failure ae 74, and was buried at White Chapel Memorial Park in Troy MI. Adeline then went to live with their daughter in Missouri.
