Smithy G. Brown, 84, of Ash Grove, MO passed away on Saturday morning February 9, 2013 in Mercy Hospital, Springfield, MO following a short illness.
Smithy was born near Billings, MO, grew up in Republic, MO and was a lifelong resident of the Bois D'Arc and Ash Grove areas. He was a glazier for Pittsburg Plate Glass Co. for over 40 years. Later he worked with Lake Country Glass Co. as a sales representative. He was a member of the John's Chapel Fundamental Methodist Church. He served on the Ash Grove Board of Education for several years. He was a member of Green Hills Country Club where he enjoyed playing golf.
Smithy Brown and Glendora M. Gouty were united in marriage on April 11, 1948. To this union two daughters were born. Together they were privileged to share 43 years. Glenna preceded him in death on July 13, 1991. Also preceding him were his parents, Smith and Rose Belle Brown and 11 brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his loving family; two daughters, Pam and husband Don Morris of Rolla, MO and Cathy and Richard Dean of Ash Grove, MO.; four grandchildren; Ryan and wife Keri Morris of Broken Arrow, OK, Andrew and wife Missy Dean of Ash Grove; Kelsey Morris of Columbia, MO; Erica and husband Ryan Long of Ash Grove, MO; and four great grandchildren, Tucker Morris, Fletcher Morris, Brynleigh Dean and Spencer Long; one brother, Max and wife Becky Brown of Billings.
Services will be held on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at 11:00 AM in Wilson Brim Daniel Chapel, Ash Grove, with Rev. Gene Marcum officiating with interment following in Ash Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call after 4:00 PM today in the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 PM.
Memorial contributions may be given in his memory to John's Chapel Youth Group.
