Garland Robert "Preacher" Brown was born in Republic, Mo., on May 14, 1919, to Smith and Rose Belle Newton Brown. He passed away May 13, 2005.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Tom Brown, and Don Brown; five sisters, Winona Brown, Lucille Darling, Rose Goff, Nancy Demanche, Norma Gray, and Geneva Fuhr; and great-granddaughter, Whitney Nichole Bishop.

He married Reathel Garner on January 15, 1943, and she survives. He is also survived by his children: Sandra and Ronald Owen, Republic; Glenda and Steve Dunn, Hurley; Carolyn and Bruce Brashers, Kimberling City; and Robert and Margaret Brown, Fair Play. He was affectionately known as PA BROWN to grandchildren: Rodney and Dianne Owen; Kelly and
Cami Bishop; Sheri and Richard Fulp; Sam and Ashley Bishop; Randy and Nancy Brashers; Angie and John Clark; Dena and Mike Wise; Sean Montgomery; and Sandra Lea Brown; and greatgrandchildren: Hannah, Shelby, and Ryanne Owen; Macey Jackson and Quincey Bishop; Brandon and Braxton Fulp; Dalton Bishop; Justus, Brady, and Anderson Brashers; Lisa and Ryan Stanek; Cassie, Nikki, and Dennis Clark; Megan and Blake Wise; and Gage and Taylor Montgomery.

Other survivors include one sister, Ruby Moore; two brothers, Smithy Brown and Max Brown; and many relatives and friends.

Preacher began an early career in construction when he quit school to help Smith blade and grade dirt roads for Greene County. He worked for Masters & Jackson Asphalt Paving and George W. Reed Asphalt Paving and again for Greene County before retiring in 1983.

Long hours and hard work never kept him from joining in on a good coyote race with some of his favorite hound dogs,Minnie Pearle, Duke, and JR. Preacher loved to ride horses and was well known among trail riders at organized American Kidney and Diabetes Associations and at local saddle clubs.

You are invited to visitation from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. tonight, and funeral service on Monday, May 16, 2005, at 1:30 p.m. in Meadors Funeral Home in Republic, Mo., with Rev. Larry Winfree officiating. Burial will follow in Garoutte Cemetery.
