Oretha B. Sowards, 93, of Huntington, WV, passed away, Tuesday, April 09, 2013 at home. She was born February 12, 1920 in Matheny, WV, the daughter of the late Albany Carroll and Zeta Walker Brooks.
She was also preceded in death by
her husband, Glen F. Sowards;
brother, Selmer Brooks;
sister, Bertha Philaw;
granddaughter, Natalie Sowards;
grandson, Benjamin Sowards.
She was a lifelong member of Pea Ridge Women's Club and a long time member of the Pea Ridge United Methodist Church where she had several very special friends, most especially, her best friend of 57 years, Nancy Braley.
She is survived by
two sons, Joseph W. Sowards of Charleston, WV and Ferrell G. (Barbara) Sowards;
one daughter, Glenda S. Sowards (Russell Villars) all of Huntington, WV;
grandchildren, Tracey Simonton (Daniel), Neal Sowards (Jessica), April Villars-Smith (John) and David Villars;
two brothers, Hollis Brooks of Jesse, WV and Jamie Brooks (Christine) of Pineville, WV;
one sister, Tensie Tracy (Harold) of Versailles, KY;
many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service at Henson & Kitchen Family Funeral Home, Barboursville, WV with Rev. Dr. Gary Shepard officiating. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, WV.
