James Gilven Brooks I, 90, of Pineville passed away Monday, October 20, 2014 following a long illness.

Born December 10, 1923 in Wyoming Co, He was the son of the late Albany Carroll Brooks and Zeta Walker Brooks.
In addition to his parents he was proceeded in death by a son, Burl Albert Brooks; brothers, Robert Hollis Brooks and Selmer Carroll Brooks and sisters, Oretha Brooks Sowards and Bertha Brooks Philyaw.

James was a member of the Cook Memorial Baptist Church. He served in the US Army during WWII and Korea. He was former Executive Vice President of Castle Rock Bank and First Communtiy Bank. Jamie, was a member of the Pineville Lions Club, a deacon and member of the Choir at Cook Memorial Baptist Church. He enjoyed woodworking, boating, camping, riding motorcycles, his church and being with his family.

Survivors include his loving wife of over 67 years, Ada Christine Curtis Brooks. His three sons: Jamie Gilven Brooks II & wife Sylvia April Uhl of Titusville Fl, Randy Lee Brooks and wife, Martha Morgan of Vienna WV, Kelly Clyde Brooks and wife, Vivian Bailey of Pineville WV.

A sister Tensie (Harold) Tracy of Versailles Ky.
He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Heather (Jeff) Ryan, Amy (James) Ramsay, Andrea (Scott) Cook, Ryan (Erica) Brooks, Erin (Donnie) Smith, and James Gilven Brooks III,. He also has 12 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of James' life will be conducted at 7:00 PM Wednesday evening at Cook Memorial Baptist Church in Pineville.
The family will recieve friends from 5-7PM Wednesday evening at the church before the service.

Burial will follow at 11:00 AM Thursday at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley WV, "Under The Dogwood Tree", with full military graveside rites conducted by the Wyoming County Veteran's Honor Guard.

The family would like to extend their deepest thanks to the staff of Wyoming Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility for their excellent care and love for our mom and dad.
