Edith Smith Bilicke, age 101, a Rancho Mirage resident, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2013, in her home surrounded by her family and her dear caregiver and companion Florence Diaz. She rests in San Fernando Mission Cemetery. She leaves her daughter Marcia Erickson Boate of Palm Desert, grandchildren Jim Erickson (Margo) of Waialua, Hawaii, Sally Erickson of Portland, Ore., Anne Erickson Brixner (Mike), and great-grandsons Michael and Nickolas Brixner of Seattle, Wash., and niece Pat Kilgore of Apple Valley, Calif. She will also be missed by Florence Diaz and her loving caregivers, Sandy Diaz, Julie Saucedo, Michelle Monroy, Daniella Salgado and Julie Dirico. She was predeceased by her four siblings. Edith was born September 25, 1911 in Los Angeles, Calif., to Frank and Carmela Altomari. While growing up in Los Angeles she attended Immaculate Heart High School. She married Joseph Odell Smith in November 1930 and lived in Los Angeles until she moved to Rancho Mirage, Calif., in 1995. In Los Angeles she was active in many organizations including the Los Angeles Assistance League and the Good Shepherd Guild. As a wife, mother and homemaker she will be remembered for her fabulous cooking, warm hospitality and foxy sense of humor. She loved golf and played in her 90's. Her home was always inviting and filled with the warm ambience of her Italian heritage. In 1989 she married Carl Archie Bilicke, also of Los Angeles.
