Funeral services will be 2 pm Tuesday, September 24, at Columbia Road Church of God, with the casket placed in the church at 1 pm. Rev D Strickland and Rev L P Baldwin will officiate. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr Craven was born February 8, 1939, in Orangeburg, a son of Zella Mills Craven and the late Murray Craven. He was a member of the Columbia Road Church of God and a member of the Florence Holub's Sanctuary Class. He graduated from Orangeburg High School and 4 years apprentice school at the Charleston Navy Shipyard, schools in California and New York. He retired from the Charleston Navy Shipyard and was working for Tri-Star Engineering in Bedford, Indiana. On September 12, 1980, he received a Presidential Letter from President Jimmy Carter for his substantial contribution to more efficient government operations.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Judy Craven of Orangeburg, mother, Zella Mills Craven, one daughter and son in law, Barbara Craven Lyons and Everett Lyons, all of Orangeburg; three sons, Michael Earl Craven and Patti Cooper, Richard Wayne Craven and daughter in law Machelle Craven, all of Orangeburg; Ronald Murray Craven and daughter in law Tammy Craven, of Cordova; two brothers, John Fletcher Craven of Lexington, and Jerry Myer Craven of Cordova; five grandchildren. Thompson Funeral Home is in charge.
