C.W. "Dub" Dulin
February 7, 1921 - April 11, 2013

C.W. "Dub" Dulin was welcomed into the arms of his Savior and America lost another great World War II veteran on April 11, 2013.

C.W. was born to Guy Alan and Ada Lee Dulin on February 7, 1921 in Mitchell County. He was the eldest son of ten children born to G.A. and Ada. C.W. joined the United States Army in 1941. He was a proud soldier and a member of the Fighting 36th Infantry Division. His Company (Co. E) was the first to land on the beaches of Salerno, Italy; the site of the Allied amphibious landings on the mainland of Italy on September 9, 1942. The untested men of the U.S. 36th Infantry Division came ashore at 0330 without supporting fire, hoping to surprise the Germans. Although the leading elements took heavy casualties, all six waves of the 36th Division assault element were on the beach by 0610. The Americans encountered intense resistance as they fought their way off the beaches into the mainland. He lost many comrades on the beach that September day. C.W. was also involved in the North African campaign, the European campaign, the Middle Eastern campaign and the American campaign. C.W. received medals for efficiency, honor and fidelity and as an expert rifleman. He also received the Bronze Star for meritorious achievement in ground combat against the armed enemy during World War II. He was proud of his country and what it stands for and he was honored to serve as a member of the Fighting 36th and was proud to be a "T-Patcher".

He married Paula (Sue) Ratliff on November 22, 1966. They made their home in Maryneal, Texas for the next 30 years. C.W. worked for Lone Star Industries for 30 years before retiring in 1985. He enjoyed his vegetable garden, especially his "Big Boy" tomatoes and just sitting on the front porch enjoying God's handiwork. C.W. and Sue moved to Abilene in 1998. C.W. suffered a life changing stroke in 2004 and was no longer able to "drive around" or go to HEB to "walk", which were two of his favorite things. He was cared for by his wife for the next seven years at home until it became necessary for him to have 24 hour care.

C.W. loved his family unconditionally. He taught us the meaning of hard work, honesty, and integrity, but most of all he taught us the love of God and Country. He was so very proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He met Jesus in 1980 when his daughter LaDell and son-in law Tommy were home from Africa where they served as missionaries for 14 years. He was a member of Lamar Street Baptist Church in Sweetwater, Texas.

C.W. is survived by his wife Sue of Potosi, 2 daughters; LaDell Moore and husband Tommy of McGregor, Melissa Dulin and partner Mika of Potosi, and one step son Damon Shipp and wife Shelby of Rotan. 7 Grandchildren; Wendy Kreider and husband Rick of College Station, Chris Moore and wife Lisa of Mombasa Kenya, Tony Moore and wife Marie of San Antonio, Sunni Shipp of Rotan, Sydney Shipp Bachman and husband Kyle of Rotan, M'Kenzie Dulin-Pickett and Maxx Dulin-Pickett of Potosi. 4 Great Granchildren. 1 brother; Buddy Dulin and wife Elilzabeth of Abilene, 2 sisters; Dolores Gillum and husband Surry, Doris Dulin of Colorado City, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Our family would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff at Windcrest Care Center, Linda from Hendrick Hospice and especially to "his girls" at Windcrest, Dolores, Donna, JoAnn, Leisha and Andrea, he loved you all very much. Thank you for making his last days peaceful and full of love.

A Celebration of C.W.'s life will be held Sunday April 14, 2013 at 1:00 pm at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd. with visitation to follow. C.W. will be laid to rest at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene, 7457 West Lake Rd., on Monday April 15, 2013 at 10:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Windcrest Care Center, 6050 Hospital Drive, Abilene, TX 79606.
