Isaac is the first born of William Keeney and Roanna (Backues) Keeney.

Isaac Keeney served in the Union Army during the American Civil War (1861 to 1865).

Isaac was an infantryman in Phelps' Missouri Infantry Regiment and took part in the Battle of Pea Ridge, Arkansas (March 7-8, 1862).

The Phelps' Regiment was deactivated in April of 1862 and Isaac was honorably discharged.

Isaac reenlisted as a cavalry soldier in Company D, 8th Missouri Cavalry, and fought at Prairie Grove Arkansas, Bauou Fourche and the capture of Little Rock Arkansas.

A grandson, Othie Keeney, told of an event that was told to him several times by his Grandfather Isaac. Isaac stated he was riding on his horse named Dick when he was being chased by the enemy. Isaac could hear the "swish" of the saber as it hit the back of of his saddle. Isaac slid to the side of his horse and fell to the ground, making a dive for the brush. The enemy went on after his horse and saddle. Isaac never saw his horse and saddle again.

During the war Isaac married Salena (Ritchey) Keeney (1848-1918) on December 15, 1864. After the war Isaac was a farmer.

Isaac and Selena had twelve children four of whom died in infancy:
