William Keeney and his young wife Roanna came to a valley straddling the Maries/Osage county line just west of Summerfield, Missouri.
On the Maries side they dug a well, built a makeshift house and began construction on a log home that still stands today but is used as a hay barn. It is one of the oldest structures in Maries County. Found nearby to the farmstead is Keeney Crossing and Keeney Ridge, the locations of which are still common knowledge of Summerfield area residents.
William and Roanna had seven known children:
1. Isaac Keeney (1841-1925)
2. Janetta "Nettie" (b.1848)
3. William Jr. (b.1850)
4. Jonathan (b.1853)
5. Sarah (b.1855)
6. Lucinda (b.1856)
7. Susan "Harriet" (b.1859)
Exact date of death unknown due to gravestone degradation. The current stone is a replacement, erected in 1994.
