Obituary of Eldridge Hill

Elbridge Hill died from tetanus which resulted from an injured foot at his home in Burr Oak, Wednesday, October 30, a week after the injury. He was almost 65 years of age.

Funeral services were conducted at the M.E. Church Friday morning by the pastor Rev. C.E. Wood assisted by Rev. J.C. Walker and Rev. A.W. Henry, and interment made in Burr Oak Cemetery.

Elbridge Hill, oldest son of Sylvester and Eliza Hill, was born in Lake county, Ohio, March 12, 1848. He was married to Lovisa Moore, November 1, 1872 at West Union Ia., and to this union seven children were born.

He served during the Civil War in Co. F., 1st Wisconsin Heavy Artillery, although but a mere boy.

He came to Jewell county in 1872. Later he spent a few years at Arcadia, Nebr., returning to this county about 10 years ago, making his home in Burr Oak ever since.

Mr. Hill became a member of the United Brethren church at the age of 24 years. Many years later he united with the M.E. Church and with this body he continued to hold membership until his death.

He was also a member of the GAR, the MWA and the Royal Highlanders.

There are left to mourn his death the wife, two daughter, Mrs. D.C. Fuller of Burr Oak, Mrs. L.L. Darby of Trenton, Nebr., and one son, Byron E. Hill of this place; also two brothers, Ed C. Hill of Burr Oak, George Hill of Smith Center, Kansas, a sister, Mrs. Oscar Follett of Fairmont, Minn., and other relatives and friends.

Mr. Hill was a quiet unassuming man and was highly respected by all who knew him. --Contributed.
