James spent Saturday night in Corona playing cards with his soccer buddies, Walsh said. Earlier Saturday, James helped his father stripe the soccer fields and then played his own AYSO game. He also refereed in the league.
James also is survived by his brothers Timothy, 15, and Christopher, 12, along with his grandparents, Richard and Evelyn Plum of Cherry Valley, and James and Joan Walsh of Westchester, Ill. James, who would have turned 19 on June 7, was named after his grandfather. "He was wonderfully diverse. He played piano and guitar and he surfed. He was on the honor roll and Boys State" in high school, Walsh said. He was a freshman at UC Irvine and a member of the Anteaters' track team. James Walsh was majoring in computer engineering.
"He was such a good kid. We weren't done with him yet," Walsh said, recounting his final day with James. "My wife said he got to do all the things he wanted to do, and we loved having him here."
