A native of Nora, Va. she resided in Putnam county (Palatka and Hollister) since 1968, coming from St. Petersburg. Irene worked 21 years as a teacher's aide at Interlachen Elementary and E. H. Miller schools. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hollister, the Woman's Club of Palatka and the Garden Club of Palatka.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Avis Adkins of Hollister, a son, Mike Adkins and wife Janet of McPherson, Kan., a daughter, Renee Hough and husband Wally of Palatka, two brothers, Bob Amburgey and wife Dawn of Cordova, Tenn., and Estol Amburgey and wife Jewel of Bristol, Va., two sisters, Jean Powers and husband Claude of Palm Coast and Jewel Porter and husband John of Knoxville, Tenn., five grandchildren, William Adkins and wife Jolene, Lydia Hough, John Michael Adkins, Jessica Adkins and Daniel Adkins and two great-grandchildren, Isabella and Trenton.
Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. today, July 5, at Oak Hill West Cemetery with Pastor Buddy Lynch officiating. No visitation is scheduled.
Flowers are gratefully accepted or memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Treatment & Research Center, Ramsey Foundation, 640 Jackson St., St. Paul, MN 55101-9021
