KEARNEY — Laurene C. Helser, 94, of Kearney died Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at her residence.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney, with the Rev. Barb Spangler officiating. Interment will be in the Shelton Cemetery.

Mrs. Helser was born May 26, 1918, in Shelton to Cleo and Nellie (Ross) Mayfield. She grew up in Shelton and graduated from Shelton High School in 1935. On Jan. 1, 1935, she married Marvin Helser in Smith Center, Kan. They lived in Shelton until 1969, when they moved to Kearney. She worked at the turkey hatchery in Shelton from 1948-1952, then was employed by Silas Mason Ordinance Plant for 6 1/2 years. She also worked at the turkey plant in Gibbon before retiring from Baldwin Filters.

She was a former member of the "Extra mile in Shelton" extension club. Her hobbies included crocheting and gardening. She enjoyed roses and canning.

Survivors include her daughters, Marlene Andrews and husband Loyd, of Kearney and Marcella Helser of Cheyenne, Wyo.; and nephew, Don Mayfield of Shelton.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin; brother, Stewart Mayfield; and sister-in-law, Charlotte Mayfield.
