Attended Districts 10 and 34 rural schools, graduated from Shelton Public Schools, 1936; attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha on a football scholarship

Military: U.S. Navy; enlisted February 1942; was honorably discharged

Married: June 20, 1942 to Charlotte Hall in Kearney

Employment: brakeman for the Union Pacific Railroad about 10 years; worked for seed corn companies for about 12 years

Farmed for 25 years in the Shelton and Wood River area

Activities: 62-year member of the American Legion Post 297 in Shelton; life member of the National Rifle Association of America; was also a member of the Platt-Deutsche Society and the Eagles Club of Grand Island; was an avid hunter and fisherman; enjoyed sports, especially Nebraska football

Survivors include: wife; son, Dan of Shelton, and sister, Laurene Helser of Kearney; also daughter-in-law, Gerda of Shelton; granddaughter, Sandra Mayfield of Omaha; and great-grandchildren, Jennifer and Colin Mayfield of Omaha Kearney Hub, 26 June, 2004
