Long time California and San Francisco Bay Area public figure Daniel Judson "Jud" Callaghan passed away in Louisville, CO, at the age of 90 on May 6 2006. He was the son of Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Admiral Daniel J. Callaghan who
perished in the "Battle of Guadalcanal" in 1942.

Jud was born in Berkeley and was raised in Oakland. He attended St. Mary's High School, where he was inducted into their Sports Hall of Fame in 1990. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, where he was a member of the victorious
1937 Rose Bowl team. He served in the United States Navy during WWII rising

After the war, Jud served the State of California in several positions including the director of the California Department of Veterans Affairs. In 1956 he moved from state service to be a director of Bay Area Council leading the planning for the industrial development for the BayArea counties. In 1961 he became the Air Pollution Control Officer at the Bay Area Air Pollution Control District (BAAPCD) to lead the efforts in shaping the regulatory implementation toward better air quality in the nine counties. He retired after 17 years at the helm of the BAAPCD in 1978.

After his retirement, Jud enjoyed traveling with his friends, playing golf, and helping his family grow and prosper. Jud's love, humor, and generosity touched many lives, and as such, he will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Jud was preceded in death by his sons Tom in 1969, Jud in 1976 and his wife, the
