Dame Dorothy Tutin, DBE (8 April 1930 – 6 August 2001) was an English actress of stage, film and television. For her work in the theatre, she won two Olivier Awards and two Evening Standard Awards for Best Actress. She was made a CBE in 1967 and a Dame (DBE) in 2000.She was a British stage and film actress whose career spanned nearly a half-century. Her debut was in the theater production of "The Thistle and the Rose" in 1949 making her one of the most sought-after actresses on the London stage. Her film credits include "The Importance of Being Earnest" and "A Tale of Two Cities". In 1970, she played Queen Anne Boleyn in the seminal BBC series "The Six Wives of Henry VIII" opposite Keith Mitchell. In 1984 she performed opposite Laurence Olivier in a television production of "King Lear". She was awarded the title Commander of the British Empire in 1967 and was made a dame, the female version of knighthood, in 2000.
