Harvey E. Carter, Sr., 63, of Palatka, died Thursday, July 5, 2001, at the Putnam Community Medical Center after a period of declining health.
The Worth County, Ga., native had lived in Palatka for the past 38 years. He had worked for many years as a meat inspector with the State of Florida and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church in Palatka and was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus Posey Carter and Janie Bell Statham Carter.
He is survived by his wife, Evelena Rogers Carter of Palatka; three sons, Harvey E. Carter Jr. of San Mateo, Rodgers E. Carter and Dwayne E. Carter, both of Palatka; two daughters, Mary E. Armstrong of Palatka and Delores E. McQuaig of East Palatka; two brothers, Raymond Carter of Lulu, Ga., and Ricky Carter of Albany, Ga.; three sisters, Faye Hurst of Poulan, Ga., Anne Umbarger of Albany, Ga., and Carolyn Howington of Deer Park, Texas; thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Sunday, July 8, 2001, at the Banks Funeral Home in Sylvester, Ga., with Rev. Glenn Tillis officiating. Burial will follow in Poulan Cemetery in Poulan Ga. (Palatka Daily News Obituary dtd 9 Jul 2001.)
