Funeral services for Inez Baucum are scheduled for 10:00 AM on Monday, January 14, 2013, at the Broadway church of Christ in Lubbock, Texas, with Lynn R. Harms and Floyd I. Stumbo of The Children's Home of Lubbock officiating. Inez died on Wednesday, January 9, 2013, after a brief illness. Inez was born to David and Hattie Conyers Baucum on August 21, 1915, in Sulphur, Oklahoma. She is survived by three nieces, Gay Brock and husband Ealy of Shallowater, Texas; Jo Story of Edmund, Oklahoma, and Angela Barlow of Oklahoma City, and one nephew, Maury Baucum, of Oklahoma City. Inez earned her Bachelor's of Social Work degree from the University of Oklahoma and her Master of Social Work degree from the University of Chicago, and in 1955 came to The Children's Home of Lubbock as the first social worker to serve in any child care program associated with the churches of Christ. In her 25 years at the Home she was responsible for the placement of over 600 children by adoption. Inez served as Assistant Professor Emeritus of Social Work at Lubbock Christian University from 1970 until 1990. She was instrumental in helping establish the social work program at LCU, helping to achieve national certification for the program. In 1987 she was named by Christian Chronicle as one 100 Trail Blazers during the Twentieth Century. In 1993 she was selected to be the recipient of the Social Work Lifetime achievement Award for the Texas Chapter of the National Association of Social Work.
