Francis "Frankie" Hensley Metcalf, 91, of Asheville, N.C. passed away on Wednesday 19, 2009.
She was born August 13, 1918 in Unicoi County, Tennessee to the late William Henry Hensley and Jennie Rambo Hensley. She had lived in Western North Carolina for the past 70 years.
She was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church in Flag Pond, Tennessee where she attended school and where she later married Bart Metcalf to whom she was married 53 years. Mr. Metcalf passed away in 1989. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Jeanette Metcalf; and two grand-children, Christopher Reece and Sandra Bongardt; five sisters; and one brother.
She was survived by seven children; two sons, James Robert Metcalf of Asheville, N.C. and Larry Dean Metcalf of Weaverville, N.C.; five daughters, Janice Buckner, Mable Reece and Reba Metcalf, all of Asheville, N.C., Mafre Cole of Leicester, N.C. and Alberta Webb of Atlanta, Georgia; and a sister, Sinda Bridges of Chucky, Tennessee. She was grandmother to 19 grandchildren; great grandmother to 32; and great-great grandmother to 8.
A funeral service was held at 7 p.m. Sunday, August 23, 2009 in the chapel of Madison Funeral Home with the Revs. Winfred Shelton and Jason Rice officiating. Burial was in Metcalf Cemetery aka State Line Cemetery aka Divide Cemetery.
