Socialite. She was the granddaughter of Joseph Peabody, a tycoon who made his fortune in the China-East India trade, and the daughter of George Peabody and Clarissa Endicott Peabody. She was the wife of William Crowninshield Endicott, a justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court and secretary of war in the first Cleveland Administration. She was known as one of the foremost hostesses in Washington, Boston and Salem, and was painted by John Singer Sargent.
