Ruth Harper Bright, 91, of Idaho Falls, formerly of Rigby, a homemaker and teacher, died Dec. 3, 1994, at her home of causes incident to age.
She was born Sept. 8, 1902, at Holladay, Utah, to George and Zenobia Sutherland Harper. In 1906, the family moved to a farm west of Rigby, and she graduated from Rigby High School. She attended Brigham Young University and Ricks College to obtain a teaching certificate, then taught at Lewisville and Rigby.
On March 19, 1926, she married Clifford M. Bright at Rigby. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple in June 1926. They lived on a farm near Rigby until 1986, when they moved to Idaho Falls. She taught in Jefferson and Bonneville County elementary schools for more than 20 years and also served one term as Jefferson County superintendent of schools. While teaching, she continued to take college courses and received a bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University in 1960. Talented in music, she included music in her teaching and involved her students in musical programs. She always encouraged her students and her family to develop their musical talents. She was a member of the Idaho Education Association. Her husband died in January 1987.
An active member of the LDS Church, she served in many positions. She was also a member of the Rigby Study Club, and Business and Professional Women's Club. For many years she was part of a trio who sang frequently in the Rigby area, and she was a member of the various choirs and choruses.
Survivors include her daughters Mrs. John W. (Edythe B.) Casper of Idaho Falls, Elaine B. Clark of Idaho Falls and Salt Lake City, Mrs. H. Allyn (Janet B.) Wilkinson of Oak View, Calif., and Mrs. Boyd K. (Clifta B.) Tobler of Flagstaff, Ariz; a sister and brother, Marjorie H. Luke of San Diego, and Murray C. Harper of Twin Falls; 18 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, three sisters and a grandson.
Funeral service will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Idaho Falls LDS Mountain View Ward, 1450 Mountain View Lane, with Bishop Benjamin R. Hunter officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials to the American Diabetes Association or the Juvenile Diabetes Association.
