Margaret Johnston was the daughter of Zachariah Johnston and Ann Robertson.

On 27 May 1802, Robert White married Margaret "Peggy" Johnston, the daughter of Zachariah Johnston, in Rockbridge Co. Presbyterian minister, Daniel Blain, officiated.

They had 10 White children (per 1 of her obits):

"Margaret had nine children, of whom George (Wm George), Robert, Joseph (#2) and Mrs. McDowell survive." Annals of Augusta County, Virginia, by Joseph Addison Waddell, 1886, p 200.

1936 WPA report ROC-54 says Robert passed on his property of 1778 to (grand) children George (Wm George) and Annie R White.

"From the Gazette of April 30, 1875: "Mr. Robert White, you have spoken of, and said all that is important to be known. I will endorse all you have said, but as I knew the family well in my early days and used to spend some happy hours in his hospitable home with his eldest daughters, Misses ANN and HANNAH, very pretty and interesting ladies of their day; also of their brother, ZECHARIAH White, who had just grown to man's estate. Of WM. G., ROBERT and JOSEPH White, I need scarcely speak; they are in your midst, worthy sons of an honest sire, and grandsons of Zechariah Johnston, Sr...."

"DIED. In Lexington, on the 16th instant, Mrs. MARGARET WHITE, wife of Robert White, Esq.--aged 62 years. The deceased had for a long series of years been the subject of varied and protracted sufferings but she had faith in Jesus, and she well knew that these light afflictions sent fron the hand of a wise and gracious parent, were intended to work out for her a far more exceeding and external weight of glory." Published in the Richmond Whig (Virginia), Vol 30, #19, 24 July 1843.

The 2018 cleaning of her marker revealed the rest that was previously illegible, see below.
