Daughter of William James Hornblower and Anna Edwards, born on June 5, 1822 in England. Anna Hornblower was baptized at St. James Church , Clerkenwell, England and came with her parents to America in 1831, living in New York City, and later moved to Ceres, NY. with her family. Anna had married James Lanphere and had no children. After James death in 1862, she married Matthew Greene, son of Amos and Ester A. Greene. In 1865, her sister Emily Hornblower Hayward would die from giving child birth to baby Emily Hayward. Matthew and Anna would soon adopt little Emily. In years to follow, Anna left Matthew and went to live with her brother, Edward Thomas Hornblower, in Boston, Massachusetts. Anna had died in Texas while visiting her adopted daughter, Emily Hayward Barry, who was married to John H. Barry. Anna was buried at North Belton cemetery, Belton, Bell county, Texas.(Information was obtain from family documentation written by William Watson Doolittle of Binghamton,NY, great nephew of Anna Hornblower. Document is dated October 11, 1937 in which he obtained from older family records. //2nd note: Investigative research is now being done on the last name of Hayward as it maybe Haywood because of "Haywood" being engraved on the Hornblower family monument for Emily E. (nee Hornblower) Haywood. Most all other information refers to Hayward being most correct name but interpretation and spelling of proper name has to be taken into consideration.)
