Son of John and Katherine Usherwood. Albert was married prior to coming to America. His wife Sarah Oldham died in 1888. They had several children: Rose, Catherine, Albert (Harry), Florence and John.

Albert and the children came to America in 1888, following the death of Sarah. In 1892, he married Ada B. White.
