Daniel Lehman was born between 1813-1816 probably in Dauphin Co., PA and died about 1848 but before 1850 as his wife Mary/Polly was listed as widow Lehman in the 1850 census.

I wanted this Daniel Lehman Jr. who seemed to have overwhelming problems in life to have a memorial as he and wife Mary Dentzler Lehman had issue.

From Daniel Lehman's inventory he owed his father $1518. on a bond or note, dated 27 August 1844. Around that debt and others spun Daniel's financial downfall. Something triggered other relatives of Peter Lehman to begin legal action, but in 1844 Jacob Lehman, one of Peter's many nephews petitioned the Dauphin County Orphans Court that Peter's land should be divided or sold and the proceedings divided among the many heirs of Peter. This action may have been triggered by the death of Peter's wife Elizabeth, Daniel Sr's death, or the mushrooming financial and legal problems enveloping poor Daniel, Jr. Daniel Jr.'s legal problems were manifold and the following are from the Court of Common Pleas records of Lebanon County.

It is possible that Daniel Jr. tried to buy too much land on credit. He apparently attempted to buy some of these properties with money borrowed from his father. His father's unexpected death and the settlement of the father's estate probably by Daniel, Jr's own brothers forced him to the wall. One of the properties he tried to buy was the old family farm in Derry Twp. It is possible he may have taken his own life between his final insolvency in 1848 and his wife's appearing as a widow in the 1850 census. There is just no way to prove what happened, death records did not start until 1907; Daniel was insolvent and had no estate to probate; there was no gravestone for him; newspapers did not carry obituaries during that time period. Only someone in the family which may have kept family records could solve his exact death date.
