Anna died at the age of either 23 or 28 years (unclear)(Alpine Chronicle newspaper, August 9, 1873).
Anna shot herself in the chest "near the throat and passing out back of the neck." She had originally intended to commit suicide by shooting herself in the heart, but had apparently changed her mind, "upon thinking of her children, and said that she had shot herself accidentally." She had been ill for "several weeks and was undoubtedly out of her mind when she sent the bullet on its deadly mission." (Sacramento Daily Union, August 14, 1873).
