Delila was born in Vian Oklahoma to Arch Ballard and Elizabeth(Lizzie) Hess. She was the youngest of 10 children. She left home very young and went to Gilmer Texas with a friend of hers, There she met Arthur Barker, and they married in 1937. After moving to Longview Texas, they started their own family of 3 children. Delila worked as a city bus driver, and many years at Resistol Hat factory. Mama(mamaw) was proud of her Cherekee heritage and her 6 grandchildren.
