Prior to 1900 he farmed with his father. On the 1900 Census he was living with a family in Clay County Kansas, and working as their servant.
James married Nettie M (Hertje) Corbin, and together they raised two children, Virgil R. Corbin, and Vera Corbin.
By 1910, James went back to farming in Round Grove Oklahoma, in a later Census in 1930, he was a delivery man.
He died in Oklahoma on March 21, 1963.
