He was married to Juanita Phelps in 1953, had one son Raymond Glen Ross and divorced. He married Sybil Owens in 1957 and had two children, Raymond Mitchell Ross and Cynthia Diane Ross. He died in the hospital in Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia on the 13th of May 2013 at the age of 79.
