She was born Nancy Virginia Scott but dropped the first name when she married. She was always known to her friends and family as "Sis".

Sis Hyatt was a gifted singer. According to her good friend Betty Jo Orders, Sis had an absolutely beautiful voice. Betty Jo asked Sis to sing at her wedding when she married Harry Orders, and the wedding song was something Betty Jo cherished and remembered for the rest of her life.
