William Greene Sr. residence 9737 Route 430 Sherman, N.Y., died on Wed. June 1, 2005 at Erie Veteran Affairs Medical Center.
He was born on April 12, 1919, in Silver Creek, N.Y., to the late James and Mina West Greene.
He was a lifetime resident of Sherman, N.Y. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army. He was formerly employed by Corry Jamestown Manufacturing and Chautauqua County Highway Department for several years. He was a member of Praise Cathedral Church of God in North East. He enjoyed story telling, mechanics and fixing lawnmowers.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nora May Rater Greene, who died Sept. 15, 2004; a granddaughter, Rebeka McCool; and three sisters: Gertrude Peterson, Ethel Penhollow and Harriet Chandler.
He is survived by two daughters: Bonnie McCool of North East, and Karen Sparling and husband, Doug of North East; and adopted daughter, Pat Bowman of North East; two sons: Bill Greene Jr. and wife, Darleen of North East, and Kevin Greene and wife, Teri of Great Valley, N.Y.; three brothers: James Greene of Bell, Florida, Pete Greene and wife, Sharon of Bell, Florida, and Paul Greene of California; also five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street, North East on Friday 2-4 and 7-9. And are invited to attend a funeral sevice on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Officiating, Rev. Michael Groves.
Interment, Mina Cemetery with full military honors.
