Mrs. Hawthorne died Friday, May 23, 2008, at Grady General Hospital in Cairo. She was born in Concord, Fla., in Gadsden County, a daughter of the late C.R. and Dora Poppell Barber. She was married to Charlie Lee Hawthorne, who preceded her in death in 1981. A Cairo resident, Mrs. Hawthorne was a homemaker and a member of Long Branch Baptist Church, Cairo.
She is survived by sons, Charles J. Hawthorne, Cairo, David L. Hawthorne (Betty), Gordon; sisters, Dora R. Moore, Cairo, Sally M. Greene, Concord; grandchildren, Patrick Ouzts, Cairo, Jeffrey Ouzts, Cairo, Mike Hawthorne, Gray, Mark Hawthorne, Charlotte, N.C., Keith Hawthorne, Charlotte; and sister-in-law, Pearl Womble, Concord.
