Gorden was the son of John Henry Sneed and Mollie Moser Sneed. He was the husband of Annie Marie Nichols. His children are sons: Junior, Tate, Luke,Roger, Vernon, Billy and Bobby daughters: Shirley, Mollie, Jean, Helen Josephine and Geraldine

Gorden was murdered while getting water from a spring close to his home.

Sam Lee is held without bond on murder charge.
Sam Lee, a resident of the Cove community west of Dayton, was bound over to the Grand Jury without bond following a preliminary hearing in General Sessions Court on Tuesday morning this week on a murder charge in connection with the shotgun shooting death of a neighbor, Gordon Sneed, according to the Rhea County Sheriff's Office.
The shooting occurred on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 9, and was believed to have resulted from a dispute over the use of water from a spring near the homes of the victim and defendant, the sheriff's office reported. Mr. Sneed and his son, Tate, were reported by Investigating officers as getting water from the spring when the shooting accident occurred.
