Margaret Schlicht was born in Schleswig Holstein, Germany, on March 22, 1846. In 1868 she was married to John Schlicht and to this union twelve children were born. Spending some time in the eastern sections of the country, the young couple came to Pottawattamie county in 1875 where they engaged in farming. Here the deceased spent the remainder of her life.
Mrs. Schlicht was one of the pioneers of this county, coming at a time when this part of the country was in the early stages of development. However, she adjusted herself to conditions and was instrumental in administering to the needs of the family at all times.
Advanced age added to her infirmities during the past years and on January 17, she was called to rest, having reached the age of 87 years, 9 months and 27 days. She leaves to mourn her departure her children, Jurgen, Anna, Jane, Phoebe, Margaret, Mary, Catherine, John, Lizzie, William and Herman, and many more distant relatives and friends. The husband and the children, Jurgen and Anna, preceded the mother in death.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from her home south of Walnut, Rev. Walter F. Kieker officiating. Interment was made in the Walnut cemetery. [The Walnut Bureau, January 25, 1934, p. 1]
