From the "Worcester Daily Spy," 18 Nov 1884:
Fatal Accident.
Mr. Henry Goddard received a telegram yesterday announcing the death of his son, George D. Goddard, at Newbury, Kansas, about 20 miles from Topeka.
He was accidentally shot by the discharge of his gun, dying instantly.
He was 24 years of age, unmarried, and a graduate of the Free Institute, class of '82.
About 15 months ago he settled on a stock farm at Newbury, with every prospect of being successful.
He has always borne an excellent character, was popular with his associates, and his parents have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends in their affliction.
His remains are expected here Thursday.
