Mary never married, census records show that she was a housekeeper for Fr. William Murphy for many years. They were involved in a car accident and Fr. Murphy was killed. His will left her with a sizable inheritance. Later when she died, she left a good portion of her money & property to the church and to her brother William. A number of family members contested this will, saying Mary was not of sound mind (Lincoln paper has several articles following the court hearing). The jury found the will valid & the family then petitioned the federal courts.
