Mrs. Ethel Viola Smith, wife of Howard Smith of Yreka, passed away suddenly August 5 in Reno where she and her husband were vacationing. Death occurred in St. Mary's Hospital where she had been rushed after an apparent hear attack.
She was born at Burdine, Kentucky on October 3, 1919 and was raised there. On Sept. 1, 1934 she married Howard Smith and the couple moved with their family to Montague in 1945,later moving to Yreka.
Survivors include her husband, Howard, daughters, Ella Mae Smith of Gilroy, Darlene Cadman of Pasco, Washington, sons, Joe Smith of Gazelle, Gary Smith of Mount Shasta, and Rodney Smith of Helena Montana; she also leaves sisters Alka Jean Ames of Anderson, and Rubel Smith of Redding and a brother Gary Price of Yreka. She also leaves 12 grand children and four great-grandchildren; she was preceded in death by a great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 9 at 10 a.m. in Girdner's Funeral Chapel in Yreka. Rev. Rod Moerer of Mount Shasta will officiate and burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
