Della Kimball, 83, of Waterloo, died at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Wednesday, May 29, 2013.

Della was born December 13, 1929, in La Porte City, Iowa, the daughter of Leroy "Curly" and Edna Thompson Derifield;. Her mother died when she was six and she spent two years with the Trimble family of Cedar Rapids and then was raised and adopted by Martin and Alice Van Erem of Waterloo. She attended Waterloo schools and graduated from West High School in 1947.

Della married Dale R. "Doc" Kimball on December 19, 1947 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterloo; he died September 2, 2008.

Della worked as the Food Service Manager at West Intermediate School for 30 years. She was a proud mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and active with Pie Ladies, Grace Greetings and helped with funeral luncheons there.

Della is survived by her son Dick Kimball of Waterloo; daughter Deb (Larry) Burger of Waterloo; son Dennis (Audrey) Kimball of Waterloo; twelve grandchildren: Kristine Kimball, Katie (Brandon) Fahey, David (Rachel) Kimball, Adam Kimball, Jordan Schmitz, Maggie Burger, Emily (Jason) Dougherty, Ben Kimball, Dustin (Niki) Kimball, Travis (Lisa) Kimball, Dan (Sara) Kimball, and Anna (fiancé Andy Trower) Kimball; twelve great grandchildren: Elsje Schipper, Lukas Schipper, Kasey Fahey, Karlie Fahey, Asher Fahey, Caleb Kimball, Cruz Kimball, Madelynn Kimball, Brayden Kimball, Elijah Dougherty, Finnegan Dougherty, and Jackson Kimball. She is also survived by her sister Bette West of Vestal, NY; sister Julia Hertzberg of Waterloo; and brother David (Aleta) Derifield of Waterloo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, adopted parents Martin and Alice, and husband.

We give thanks for mom's love of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, her beloved dog Sophie, and the many years of family times at Lake Delhi. She enjoyed her many friendships, being a "Pie Lady" and being active shopping and driving her car until recently.
